About the Program

Outreach on Marine Debris and Protected Species through the publication of a Guidebook to Marine Mammals and Turtles of Hawaii and the Eastern Pacific Region, to include a section on Marine Debris

Mary J. Donohue and Kate Wynne have set out to create a comprehensive and accurate guidebook of the marine mammals and turtles of Hawaii and the Eastern North Pacific using the best available science for the diverse marine resource users who share Hawaiian waters. Included in this guidebook will be a section on marine debris highlighting entanglement of marine mammals and turtles in derelict fishing gear to heighten awareness of this problem. This guide will also include NOAA endorsed and sanctioned information on disentangling marine turtles and information on what to do, and whom to call, to report entangled and stranded pinnipeds and cetaceans.
