About the Program

Address lobster line work associated with Large Whale Take Reduction Plan

In an effort to assess the impact of derelict lobster lines on large whales in the North Atlantic, NOAA Fisheries will conduct workshops up and down the East Coast to gather more information on low profile groundline (method for lobster fishing) for consideration of management actions.

The Northeast Regional Office (NER) is currently in the process of prohibiting the use of floating groundline in order to reduce the potential for entanglement of marine mammals in loops of line in the water column, and thus NER has determined that there is a need to hold workshops.

The program will include the procurement of facilitation services to arrange the low profile workshops including handling all of the meeting logistics, arranging travel for workshop participants, facilitation of the workshops, and preparation of meeting summaries.
