NOAA Marine Debris Program Grant Guidelines
Community-based Marine Debris Prevention and Removal Grants | Marine Debris Prevention and Outreach Partnership Grant | Fishing for Energy Small Grants Fund

The NOAA Marine Debris Program supports several grant opportunities for marine debris activities. The first is in cooperation with the NOAA Restoration Center’s Community-based Restoration Program, the second is an outreach and education partnership opportunity, and the third is in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Covanta Energy Corporation.
NOAA Marine Debris Program Grant Guidelines
The NOAA Marine Debris Program Grant Program Guidelines, published December 21, 2009 in the Federal Register, provide information for potential applicants to the NOAA Marine Debris Program’s (MDP) grant program. In regard to MDP grants that may be awarded by NOAA through competitive solicitations, the guidelines explain the grant program goals and objectives, and the implementation of the competitive grant program.

1. Community-based Marine Debris Prevention and Removal Grants
In cooperation with the NOAA Restoration Center, the Marine Debris Program offers another funding opportunity. This grant is provided to catalyze the implementation of locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention and removal projects that will benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and NOAA trust resources including anadromous fish. The NOAA Restoration Center funds projects directly and through partnerships with national and regional organizations.
Typically opens in July with proposals due October 31st.

2. Marine Debris Prevention and Outreach Partnership Grant
The MDP invites the public to submit applications requesting funding to establish multi-year national and regional partnerships focusing on utilizing existing networks and expanding on existing resources to address marine debris through prevention, education, and outreach activities, and the dissemination and/or development of tools to support these activities. Partnerships are expected to catalyze the public or a target audience to address marine debris in a way that will benefit living marine resources and/or navigation safety.
This grant is due February 18, 2010.

3. Fishing for Energy Small Grants Fund
With support from the NOAA Marine Debris Program and Covanta Energy Corporation, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation will provide funding to Fishing for Energy Partnership ports, their partners, or other commercial fishing ports to provide capacity and incentives to address old, abandoned or derelict fishing gear.
