National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant |
Community-based Marine Debris Prevention and Removal Grants
| Fishing for Energy Small Grants Fund

Pieces of beach litter
A day at the beach may yield a surprising amount of debris. Tides and currents push marine debris onto beaches, costing communities thousands each year for cleanup and removal.

The NOAA Marine Debris Program supports three grant opportunities for marine debris activities. The first is in cooperation with the NOAA Restoration Center’s Community-based Restoration Program, the second is in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), and the third is in partnership with NFWF and Covanta Energy Corporation.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

With support from the NOAA Marine Debris Program, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) will fund projects that will result in benefits to living marine resource habitats and navigational waterways through removing and/or preventing marine debris, including projects that are coupled with a best management practice that limits the re-accumulation of debris. This NOAA partnership supports innovative and effective conservation and stewardship of our country’s marine and coastal areas.

Typically opens in early Spring with pre-proposals due in May.

Community-based Marine Debris Prevention and Removal Grants

In cooperation with the NOAA Restoration Center, the Marine Debris Program offers another funding opportunity. This grant is provided to catalyze the implementation of locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention and removal projects that will benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and NOAA trust resources including anadromous fish. The NOAA Restoration Center funds projects directly and through partnerships with national and regional organizations.

Typically opens in July with proposals due October 31st.

Fishing for Energy Small Grants Fund

With support from the NOAA Marine Debris Program and Covanta Energy Corporation, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation will provide funding to Fishing for Energy Partnership ports, their partners, or other commercial fishing ports to provide capacity and incentives to address old, abandoned or derelict fishing gear.
