International Resources
The Global Marine Litter Information Gateway is a joint effort of the United National Environmental Programme (UNEP) Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) and the United Nation's International Maritime Organization (IMO), with the objective of providing a clearinghouse and gateway for supplying and exchanging information on the global, regional, and local problem of marine litter.
Marine debris is an international problem, with both international organizations and individual countries addressing the issue to prevent further pollution and clean up what is already in the coastal and marine environment. Organizations with Web sites on activities going on outside of the U.S. include:
- International Maritime Organization
- Environment Canada
- Carpentaria Ghost Net Programme (Australia)
- World Wildlife Fund - Australia (The Net Kit: A Fishing Net Identification Guide for Northern Australia)
