The BoatUS Foundation has been a great partner in efforts to address marine debris across the nation through boater outreach and monofilament recycling. BoatUS s a national 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safe and environmentally sensitive boating. The Foundation's goal is to be the leader in boating safety and environmental education and outreach, with the purpose of reducing accidents and fatalities, increasing stewardship of our waterways, and keeping boating a safe, accessible, and enjoyable pastime.
The BoatUS Foundation and BoatUS Angler Program coordinate and lead the "Reel In and Recycle" monofilament fishing line recycling program. With funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, they are building a nationwide network of monofilament recycling locations to make proper disposal of monofilament more accessible.
In one year, they collected enough monofilament fishing line to stretch across the US from coast to coast.
