Regional Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program
Gulf Region; 2006
The focus of this project was to extend the monofilament line recovery and recycling type programs of Florida and Texas throughout the Gulf of Mexico Region with initiatives to educate interest groups and organize volunteers for placement and maintenance of collection facilities, recording of data on material collected and shipping material to recycling partners.
The NOAA Gulf of Mexico Recreational Fisheries Program Leader teamed with staff of the Texas Sea Grant Extension program to provide materials and education on the monofilament line recovery and recycling program to willing partners in the Louisiana and Mississippi/Alabama Sea Grant programs, as well as state fisheries agencies and other interest groups.
This program is housed within NOAA Fisheries' Gulf of Mexico Regional Recreational Fisheries Office and is funded through NOAA's Ocean Service, Office of Response & Restoration, Marine Debris Program.
