Marine debris is an everyday problem, but natural and human-caused disasters have the potential to make it worse, by generating large amounts of debris all at once. Responding to this type of disaster debris can be challenging, so the NOAA Marine Debris Program, in partnership with other federal, state, and local organizations, has created resources that can help these organizations be better prepared. This document outlines how the Marine Debris Emergency Response Guides can be used as a tool to help mitigate disaster debris impacts by facilitating a coordinated, and well managed response.
