Thousands of abandoned and derelict vessels litter ports, waterways, and estuaries all over the country. They threaten our ocean, coasts, and waterways by obstructing navigational channels, causing harm to the environment, and diminishing commercial and recreational activities. Vessels are abandoned or become derelict  in a variety of ways, from natural disasters, such as hurricanes, to the inability of boat owners to maintain or responsibly dispose of their vessels. These vessels may sink at moorings or at sea, or become stranded on shorelines, reefs, or in marshes. Abandoned and derelict vessels may persist for years, spreading debris from disintegrating vessels into the environment. Assessing, removing, and disposing of these vessels requires significant financial and technical resources. This Abandoned and Derelict Vessel InfoHub exists to organize all relevant resources for derelict vessels management in each coastal state and territory in the United States.
