Transect Survey Form

Cover of the Transect Survey Form.

This Transect Survey Form is used to document the conditions of each transect of your NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project site and quantifies debris loads by material and type. Guidance on materials and item types can be found in the MDMAP Item Categorization Guide. A Transect Survey Form should be completed once for EACH transect, yielding four forms per survey. Print four copies of this datasheet to bring with you when you are planning to survey your site.

If you have any questions about how to complete this form, please contact NOAA Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project staff at md.monitoring@noaa.gov.

The Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP) is a NOAA citizen science initiative that engages NOAA partners and volunteers across the nation to survey and record the amount and types of marine debris on shorelines. Participants in the MDMAP network select nearby shoreline monitoring sites that they return to routinely to conduct surveys and record information that can be used to compare amounts, locations, movement, sources, and impacts across the United States and internationally.
