Interagency Marine Debris Coordinating Committee Biennial Report

The Marine Debris Act requires the Interagency Marine Debris Coordinating Committee to submit biennial progress reports that evaluate the United States’ and international community’s progress in meeting the purposes of the Marine Debris Act. These reports contain all of the information required by 33 U.S.C. § 1954(e), entitled Biennial Progress Reports, including the following:

• the status of implementation of any recommendations and strategies of the Interagency Committee and analysis of their effectiveness;
• a summary of the marine debris inventory to be maintained by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration;
• a review of the NOAA Marine Debris Program, including projects funded and accomplishments relating to the reduction and prevention of marine debris;
• a review of U.S. Coast Guard programs and accomplishments relating to marine debris removal, including enforcement and compliance with International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) requirements; and
• estimated Federal and non-Federal funding provided for marine debris and recommendations for priority funding needs.
