Marine Debris Program - Programmatic Environmental Assessment

Screen shot of first page of Programmatic Environmental Assessment document.
Before funding decisions on marine debris projects are made, NOAA staff must conduct an analysis of environmental impacts, as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). NEPA requires that federal agencies consider the environmental impacts and reasonable alternatives for proposed actions of any projects which are financed, assisted, conducted, regulated, or approved by the agency. In 2013, the NOAA MDP conducted a programmatic environmental assessment (PEA) of different project activities relevant to the program, to be used in the NEPA review for funding actions. This is the PEA report that resulted.
